Friday Feature: Manisha Dudley
This week's Friday Feature goes out to one of our wellness instructors. Meet, Manisha Dudley! You can hang with her in the meditation room at The Riveter Fremont on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 2 p.m. starting in 2018.
Manisha has been part of our community since September when our Fremont space first opened. She learned about The Riveter when her Facebook page lit up with our events for The Riveter members and the Seattle community at large. We took some time to chat with Manisha about her work with Meditation for Modern Life and her experience at The Riveter.
What are a few of your favorite things about The Riveter?
I love how The Riveter is so much more than just a workspace. It’s a community of diverse individuals working toward creative and meaningful achievement. I love the collaborative feel of the space, where folks can network about their passions. And of course, I love the emphasis on wellness! It is a great joy to meet new members every week during meditation sessions. These sessions are a lovely break in the day where members can come together to cultivate mindfulness and practice being present.
Tell us about yourself! Include 3 fun facts.
I am a first generation Indian-American. My father is from India and my mother is from Tanzania. I have a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and worked for many years as an academic researcher. I was married over my lunch break in Boulder, Colorado under an oak tree in Chautauqua Park.
Tell us what you do!
I am a local mindfulness coach and meditation facilitator. I guide sessions for individuals and groups. You can find me at yoga studios and corporate venues including Microsoft and of course, The Riveter! Additionally, I maintain a website all about modern meditation. I’ve created an extensive library of recorded guided meditations of varying lengths – all available to listen to for free on my website manishadudley.com – check it out!
What is Meditation for Modern Life? How can members get involved (any events?)
Meditation for Modern Life is me! It’s my method of sharing my experiences with mindfulness and meditation with others. My website, my public offerings, my private and corporate sessions are all aimed at one thing: applying the benefits of mindfulness and meditation to modern life.
What is your #1 piece of advice for women professionals / entrepreneurs?
In his inspiring essay, Self-Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Trust Thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.” My advice to all of us who are inviting ambition into our lives is to do so with authenticity and with trust in ourselves. Stay fearlessly honest to who you are and to your passions, follow your heart – it’s the only way to experience true success.
What is your favorite book / podcast of all time?
It’s difficult to pinpoint a book or podcast that I’d call my singular favorite. What comes to mind at the moment is a short novel I read over twenty years ago called, "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse. This book is brilliantly written, insightful and inspiring. I highly recommend this cult classic for anyone who has yet to read it.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
This question is easy. My proudest accomplishment is my family. I’ve been married to the love of my life for 18 year and together we are raising two lovely daughters.
How should professionals / entrepreneurs incorporate wellness into their 2018 goals?
My suggestion to everyone is to find time everyday to be mindfully present. Whether it’s formal meditation or informal mindfulness practices, learning the art of presence can go a long way in reducing stress and anxiety and increasing well-being.
If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?
Well, as a mindfulness coach I teach presence. That means fully experiencing the here and now, rather than longing for the past. All seriousness aside, I’d love to travel back to 1992, the year I started college. It was a blast! It was a time of excitement, independence, hope and dreams coming true.
What's rocking your world this month?
I’m in love the holidays in every way – the family, the music, the food and the atmosphere!
